150. The Mom Test

There are my key takeaways from the book The Mom Test by Rob Fitzpatrick

  1. The Mom Test: Talk about their life instead of your idea,Ask about specifics in the past instead of generics or opinions about the future, Talk less and listen more
  2. If they haven’t looked for ways of solving it already. they are not going to look for yours to buy
  3. You are not allowed to tell them what the problem is, and in return, they are not allowed to tell you what to build. They own the problem, you own the solution

The bellow are the takeaways that didn’t make it to my top 3.
– Startups down starve, they drown
– If you just avoid mentioning your idea, you automatically start asking better questions
– Distinguish between I-will-pay-to-solve-that-problem and thats-kind-of-annoying-but-I-can-deal-with-it
– Where does the money come from?
– Compliments are the fool’s gold of customer learning: shiny, distracting, and worthless
– I’ll do it next time is not a real problem
– Every time you talk to someone, you should be asking at least one question which has the potential to destroy your currently imagined business
– Do not prematurely zoom in
– Keep having conversations until you stop hearing new stuff
