6.Career

So it’s been a couple of months since I started to shift my career to the tech world from the architecture world, and what I’ve noticed so far.

First of all, I’ve found out, there are a bunch of free websites for coding(I’m not sure there are any in Japanese). Right now I’m using a website called, “FreeCodeCamp” and learning about “machine learning”. When you log in, there will be a list of genres and when you click it you’ll see a youtube video for each section. After watching the video, answer the question under the video box and then you go to the next. I’m not sure if the things I’m learning will be practically useful, so after I’m done with some of the courses maybe I’ll talk about it here.

Secondly, It’s hard to determine how I’m going to look for my job. Ideally, I want to use Linkedin, because one of my top priorities for my next job is to be able to work with foreigners. I have this image that I could find that kind of job through linkedin more than a job-change site in Japan. For now, I am using both.

Finally, it gets really overwhelming. There are so many jobs in the tech world, I had to figure out one by one, what kind of jobs there are. And, no one in my branch is doing the things I’m doing right now so I have to do it all by myself. Luckily, I have friends outside my company, so I’m talking about this with those friends.

Despite all the time and energy, it’s consuming, it feels as if I’m in an adventure. It’s exciting to have new challenges and I have this feeling that I am moving towards what I want to become.
