47% of businesses that moved first failed. Surprisingly, the companies that moved second have a lower possibility of failing.
One of the reasons is because, to create something really good, it’s usually too complicated to make it succeed on it’s first try. It is much easier to see SOMEONE FAILING AT IT, LEARN FROM IT, AND THEN APPLY THAT TO YOUR SERVICE.
This doesn’t mean you should never go first. If that is true, nothing new will happen in the future.
Like Peter Theil said in his book [Zero to One],
“Moving first should never be the objective.”.
It is important to think about HOW YOU ARE GOING TO BE THE LAST, instead of BEING THE FIRST.
